Called to Serve

Today we went to our friends' mission farewell in West Jordan. Richard and Deanna Kemple gave their long-awaited farewell talks as they prepare for their 1-year mission to Salt Lake South. Deanna was saying how nervous she was about speaking and how in the world was she going to do a proselyting mission, but after hearing her speak and listening to the love she had for what she believed in...she'll do just fine. They are wonderful people and we are thrilled to call them friends. Good luck you guys! This is your next adventure!!

What Are the Odds????!!!!!

You know the feeling of finding that "perfect" dress for that "special" day? I don't think I have ever seen the same wedding dress on more than one person...until just now. I was online seeing what people do on their 40th (probably because ours is going to be a normal day because our trip to Hawaii is in October) and OH MY GOSH...that's my dress! Just throw salt on the wound. This bride was wearing my linen dress and was married in June, 1969. So much for Iver's telling me it was "one of a kind". Must say...she had good taste, it was just weird. Maybe I will desensitize by next year and not even mention our anniversary.

Happy 40th to us!!!

Wow...40 years of marriage this Saturday! Doesn't seem like that long ago, but at the same time, we've been together forever. We have 6 beautiful children and 20 fantastic, healthy grandchildren. That in itself is worth more than anything. To celebrate we will be going to Hawaii in October. As far as this weekend goes...I'm celebrating with a 102.7 temperature and Chuck went quadding with the boys. He waited to see what the doctor said and then left this morning.

They say the 40th is magical...I could do with a little magic right now!...and some Kleenex...and maybe some cough syrup...and I'm out of Tylenol. I'm going to "will" myself to be better by Saturday.

Oops!....Good thing he's cute!

I'm on the phone with Kristy and hear all this laughter outside. I go to the front door and Bob (Chuck's friend) is hysterical. Dad was moving the trailer with mulch in it and it dumped. (This is something he normally doesn't do)...then he backs up and takes out the front of our water feature!..."I need to redo that anyway". Good thing he's cute!!

And the day got worse....

Follow-up on our day of excitement yesterday...I forgot to mention Chuck breaking his toes! He tripped yesterday morning on something and kept limping all day. Last night he took off his shoe...PURPLE and BLACK and SWOLLEN. The third toe bent, but didn't show color. He is now in sandals with his tan legs and "white sockline". (He won't let me take a picture...maybe I'll wait until he's asleep). I GOT IT! UGLY, huh!

Cited and Rejected...All in the Same Morning!

Where do I start!??? The day started off normally. We gathered up papers to recycle, threw some clothes in to be washed, and decided to head to Orem because of a paper I found in the desk. Actually, the "paper" was a little thing called...Utah Motor Vehicle Registratiton Paperwork. It had been placed in a drawer and forgotten. It's only 9 months late!!! I ran out to check my license plate and sure enough, an old sticker from '08. We got as far as Lowe's and Chuck starts to pull over. In the rear view mirror are those pretty red and blue lights that flash off and know...the ones attached to a police car! Really...9 months and now I get pulled over. Anyway, we showed him all the paperwork and I had the address on my GPS, so he realized that that is where we were going. BUT, he took Chuck's license, made sure everything was on the up and up and then informed us he had every legal right to impound the car.............but he wouldn't if we were on our way to Orem. However, we did get a citation and a court date...yeah...a court date.

We continued to an emissions place where we were REJECTED! Seems we have a nail in the tire and a "rock" artwork on the passenger side with a 6" straight line. Thus...REJECTED. We get in the car, go to Les Schwab and fix the tire. We go to have the window fixed, it's cheaper than our deductible, but they can't fix it until Friday. We are now hiding out in the garage until Friday. Still have to call the police department for our court date. Our son, Rob, got a kick out of it. I knew I shouldn't have said anything out loud (that's why we were pulled over).

Glad we keep the car in good shape...too bad, we can't control the nails in the road or the rocks that hit our windshield!!! It's 3:32 p.m., I'm going to take a nap.

Raining grandchildren!

Seems like the moms all left at the same time! Kim had planned a "surprise" trip w/Dan and friends months ago and asked if I would watch the girls. Brie found out there was a family wedding (no children allowed) and needed help with the girls the same week. I watched the little one (3 mo.)and the 2 yr. old Wednesday through Friday, then Jay stayed over and we helped each other until Sunday. Friday, we stayed at Kim's and got the girls to their dance tryouts. All 6 girls had a great time playing w/each other and they loved having the baby around.

What a great group of girls. My sleep pattern was a little off with nightly feedings and I think the 2 yr. old was trying to kill me off the first night when her and her baby sister took turns waking up, but it all worked out in the end. What sweet little ones. We are really lucky to have such great grandchildren.

Dance tryouts were Saturday and I got a call to pick up the 7 yr. old who had just thrown up all over the studio...hmmm...maybe that's why the studio smelled like Lysol when I came to pick her up.??? Important thing is...all 6 are accounted for and healthy and I didn't lose anyone!! We even got grandpa to burp the baby! Success! This was during our crazy rainstorms of thunder and lightning every day.

Lil Sahara Weekend

I finally got to go to "Lil Sahara"! I have heard of it from "the guys", but never got to go. We went with Jay/Brie and the girls and Brian/Kellie. It was horribly windy Friday afternoon and night so we stayed in the RV. Saturday was beautiful. A lot of it was like Sand Mtn. in Fallon, NV., but there was so much more to see and places to go. Grandpa took advantage of nap time, so I let him nap with Kelsie as well. The campsites were huge (flushing toilets) and it was very quiet. We stayed at the Oasis Campground. Definitely will be going back. Little Khloe decided she was a quad hound and refused to get out of the grandpa let her stay there and she fell asleep. Kellie went up the mountain on Jay's quad for the first time and loved it. The kids had fun going up and down the mountain. Jay made my hair go grey even more by going backwards up the mountain w/o his helmet (so he could see). I told him dad has it on tape, so he never has to do that again. He also showed us how to quad on two wheels. (Can I still send him to his room????). A guy was just life-flighted out that morning. Jay is good at tricks, but he makes me nervous and I want to keep him around for a loooong time. We all decided we needed more days out there, but at least it's close by.

Shrinking by ounces...but it still counts!

I joined Curves a month ago and have been TRYING to go at least 3x a week. We left on vacation, I bummed out my knee and had to rest....BUT....they weighed and measured today..TA DA...4 lbs. and 8 1/2" gone. I can feel it somewhat but have such a long way to go. Hopefully, I can be better this month. YEA!!!!!!! (Disclaimer...there will never be a pic posted like on Biggest me!).

Probably Cheating...but I can't email it!!!

I am so not high tech! I usually can email a picture, but not one that says POP3 something or rather. Sooooo Barb....this is for you! A pic of our boys when they were much smaller than they are now! And...who's that cute bride?????
